Nassfeld – Skiing trip to Carinthia
The day of our annual skiing trip finally arrived, and started pretty early. We booked a flight, departing on 14.02 from Luxembourg to Vienna and a connecting flight to Graz. We received an upgrade for the first time, because Luxair made a booking mistake and the flight was overbooked. This was our highlight, none of us ever flew in Business class. It was Valentine’s day and the best part of it was that we received this amazing breakfast and champagne and had could enjoy it above the clouds.
We continued our trip a little bit tipsy to Nassfeld, which is approximately 3 hours away from Graz. Nassfeld is indeed a very nice skiing area, with its 110 slope kilometers, 30 lifts and halfpipe. Our hotel was located on top of a mountain, there were only 2 more hotels, one small supermarket, 2 sports stores and 1 après-ski bar within walking distance.
This was not our first time in Nassfeld, we spent our skiing trip there 2 years ago as well, but in a different hotel.
It’s fairly to say that we have been to a crazy luxury hotel last year, which no hotel can ever top. The hotel Gartnerkofel is a family owned hotel, the food was amazing and the location of the place is perfect. What bothered us was the hotel itself. According to the website, the hotel is a 4*** Hotel, although only half of the rooms have been renovated. The matrasses were very weak and we had problems with some of the waiters, therefore we didn’t go to the bar after the 3rd day.
Although the owners were doing its best to satisfy us, their staff ruined it for them.
The Falkensteiner hotel is directly located around the valley station in Tröpolach. The falkensteiner chain is a 4**** hotel chain and the hotel was simply amazing. Our room was very open, big and clean. Just a perfect place for a skiing trip. The service was excellent. The hotel offers a lot of different SPA treatments and its only 2 min away from the ski lift.
Nassfeld offers you an amazing snowboard / skiing experience. The lifts are in excellent condition, new and not crowded with people. The slopes were always well prepared and cruising down the hill was just a pleasure. Nassfeld offers a variety of ski huts, and the food is very good in every hut. We can recommend you the Granitzenalm: the Kaiserschmarn is amazing! The skiing area is quite wide, riding from the top of the mountain to the millennium-express valley station in Tröpolach takes about 30min, it’s a very long slope.
Unfortunately, there is only one après-ski bar within walking distance of the Gartnerkofel hotel, therefore it was a little bit lame. The bar itself is super cool, but you don’t have an alternative. The good places for après ski are Tröpolach and the village of Hermagor. When we stayed in the Falkensteiner in Tröpolach, we went to après ski close to the valley station. There are a few pubs around as well, where you can celebrate even after dinner. We prefered the apres-ski in Salzburg.
